Acid Reflux
One of the simplest treatments for Acid Reflux (GERD) is a change in your diet. Certain foods are known to reduce the pressure in the lower esophageal sphincter and thereby promote acid reflux. Foods that should be avoided include chocolate, peppermint, fatty foods, alcohol and caffeinated drunks. In addition, people who experience acid reflux may find that other foods aggravate their symptoms. Examples are spicy or acid-containing foods like citrus juices, carbonated beverages (with and without caffeine), and tomato based products.
There are some easy lifestyle changes related to eating habits thay may help reduce the symps of acid reflux. Acid reflux is worse following meals. Therefore, eat small frequent meals instead of three big meals a day, and avoid late evening snacks before going to bed. The smaller and earlier evening meals may reduce the amount of relux for two reasons. First, the smaller meal results in lesser distention of the stomach. Second, by bedtime, a smaller and earlier meal is more likely to have emptied from he stomach than is a larger one. As a result, acid reflux is less likely to occur when we lie down.
