Cinnamon Toast Muffins

“They are like OMG good!” that’s what one of my daughter’s friends said when she came over to visit and had one of my Cinnamon Toast Muffins.  Once I asked what “OMG” was and if that was a good thing, well, apparently yes it was.  I’ve been making these Cinnamon Toast Muffins for years and I must say that they are in fact, OMG good.

Enjoy!

Cinnamon Toast Muffins

Ingredients

1 3/4 c Flour
1 1/2 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 ts Nutmeg
1/2 ts Cinnamon
3/4 c Milk
1 Egg
1/3 c Oil
3/4 c Sugar

Topping
1/2 c Butter, melted
3/4 c Sugar
3 ts Cinnamon

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease muffin pan or line with paper liners.  Combine cinnamon and sugar for topping; set aside.  In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon. In another bowl, combine thoroughly milk, egg, oil, and sugar.  Add dry mixture to wet mixture and stir to just combine.  Fill muffin pan 2/3 full and bake for 20-25 minutes.  Remove from oven and immediately dip tops in melted butter; then in cinnamon- sugar mixture previously combined.  Makes 10 muffins.

Tuna Melt

I haven’t made this recipe in years, but there’s a reason.  I got on a kick of eating Tuna Melts, it wasn’t just a little kick, more like an addiction, but the thing is with a good food craving you can successfully kill the craving by just having too much of it.  That’s right, I killed this recipe with overuse, but I’m sure you’ve done that as well.  A proper time has passed though and I made this yesterday and mmmm, was it good, but I’m trying to control the urge as too much Tuna isn’t good for you.

Tuna Melt

Serves 6

1 can 12 ounces solid white or chunk light tuna, drained and flaked
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 ½ tablespoons sweet pickle relish
1 ½ tablespoons chopped onion
½ tablespoon mustard
3 English muffins, split and toasted
6 tomato slices, halved
6 slices American, Cheddar, Swiss or Monterey Jack cheese

In medium bowl, combine tuna, mayonnaise, pickle relish, onion and mustard; mix well. Spread about 1/3 cup on each muffin half. Top with tomato slice and cheese slice. Broil 4 to 5 minutes or until cheese melts.

Apple Butter

Apple Butter isn’t for everyone, but it’s one of my favorites.  Here’s a simple to make Apple Butter recipe and it yields 2 half pint jars.

8 cups applesauce
12 tsp. cloves
½ tsp. allspice
2 cups brown sugar
½ tsp. cinnamon
Grated rind of one lemon

Mix all ingredients and spread in shallow baking pan. Bake at 275 degrees F, stirring occasionally, until thick (about four hours). Pack into hot, sterile canning jars. Store in refrigerator for up to three weeks.

War - Card Game

This is a very simple card game that’s suitable for young kids to play and it’s good to get them to know the ranks of the cards, the point values, and helping with some basic numbers for the really young kids.  All you need to know is the ranks of the cards: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and ten…the rest just follow the numbers on the cards

Number of players: Two

Cards and deal: A typical 52 card pack is suitable. The king ranks high. The ace ranks low. Just count out 26 cards for each player.

Object of the game. To win all the cards.

The Play: Each player has a stack of cards in front of him, face down. Each turns up a card. The highest one wins. The winner puts both cards face down on the bottom of his stack. If the cards show similar rank, the player then covers his card with one face-down card and then turns up another one. The higher card takes all six cards. If the turned cards are again the same, each will take another face-down card and another face-up card. The winner takes all ten cards.

Snoring Home Remedies

In the darkness you hear the wild beast, it must be something ferocious with fangs, matted fur, something like a werewolf on steroids.  What could it be, what has entered your bedroom that sounds so awful.  It stops for a second, surely it’s ready to pounce on you, and then it snorts as it rolls over and you realize its your significant other and they’re just snoring.  Should I say just snoring?  I suppose I will because we should be somewhat kind to the sleeping beast.

Here’s some simple home remedies that might help with snoring:

  • First, losing weight, some people just need to lose a little weight and they’ll stop snoring
  • Reduce the amount of Alcohol you consume as that can cause snoring
  • Sleeping on your side makes it more difficult to snore, however, this is easier said then done.  I’ve seen people put a tennis ball on their back so when they roll over to sleep on their back they wake up and realize they are, but that to me is just seems torturous to me.
  • Breathe Right Strips…they open up the nasal passages and can stop snoring
  • A Cervical Collar Might help…you’ll need to go to your doctor for that
  • Finally, going to the doctor, might be sleep apnea or some other medical disorder and should really be checked out.

So, there’s some tips on keeping that wild beast at bay.  If you’re like me though, the sound of snoring never bothered me, it always makes me tired.
