Stress
In today’s world, especially, everyone has to deal with stress. By listening to your body and recognizing stress, you can do something about it. No one stress reducing technique works for everyone. You must find what works for you. Here are some suggestions to get you on your way:
- Getting a good night’s sleep is absolutely necessary to reduce stress. Without enough sleep, the world goes by in a blur of yawns and depression of just about everything. If you can’t sleep, don’t just lie there in bed (that will make you nervous). Get away from your pillow and your bedroom. Have a glass of warm milk or a light snack. Sit in your favorite living room chair and read a book. Don’t think about the time and that you should be sleeping.
- Unwind at least an hour before bed. Whatever you do, don’t start cleaning the kitchen or do an exercise routine. Any type of exercise will wake you up.
- Talk away your anxieties with a family member that you are close to. Don’t let worries fester and make you strung out with stress.
- When you get home from work change into loose comfortable clothes that will let your body breathe. Sit down and relax for 1/2 an hour.
- Watch your diet. Don’t go to the extremes of anything. If you diet too strictly, that will seem overwhelming as you feel starving. On the other side, if you eat too many sweets and carbohydrates, your body will start to ache and you will wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and see a bloated face and eyelids — that will really cause all day stress as you walk around the office or at home feeling really out of sorts and ugly.
- Fantasize about an event, a vacation or someone special. Fantasizing relaxes the body.
- Get some sun everyday. 15 minutes of sun recharges the body in a good way. Breathe some fresh air and look at the horizon.
- Financial stress is horrible. Make a list of what you have to do to try and get the finances under control. If it is beyond control, do the best you can. Above all be thankful that you have your health. You could have lots of money and a health problem (that’s the ultimate stress).
- Be thankful for what you have - just think that there is always someone that has it worst.
- Make a list of all the stresses that are in your life. Try to make small changes to correct each stress but be persistent even if you have to take little baby steps.
- If you can, plan one day each week to eat or do whatever you like. I personally love mashed potatoes and meatloaf while watching an old movie and wearing loose clothes.
- Finally, pray. No matter what your religion you can pray to God or the universe for positive energy. Close your eyes and think deeply that there is a positive energy that you can tap into if you just believe it is there. Believe and you will surround yourself with this positive energy.
